Diwali (also called Deepavali,) is one of the most popular and eagerly awaited festivals of India. The Indian religions Hindu, Jain, Sikh and Buddhist celebrate this festival. Diwali is also knows as the "Festival of Lights," it symbolizes the victory of good over evil. Deepavali means array of lights that stands for victory of brightness over darkness. Lamps are lit as a sign of celebration and hope for mankind.

Diwali is celebrated as a result of many mythological stories. Diwali is associated with one of the stories about the destruction of evil by God Vishnu in one of his many manifestations. It's also dedicated to the Goddess Kali and to Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth, in the rest of India. In Jainism, where the festival is also known as Mahavira Nirvana, Diwali celebrates the attainment of Moksa by Lord Mahavira.

It is a tradition to light homes and offices on Diwali. People decorate their premises with diyas (deepaks), electric bulb series and such that the surroundings are colorful, bright and beautiful.
